Keeping Yourself Well this Fall
As a holistic life coach who has spent the past 23 years in the health and wellness field, it is my passion is to share wellness alternatives to help people stay healthy and pain free. With fall underway, I wanted to share with you a handful of fall wellness tips I have collected over the years to help you maintain balance and health.
Tip #1: Magic Socks for Kicking a Cold
This tip is truly magic. This simple method boosts the immune system and can help restore wellness while you sleep, calm the nervous system and decongest the head and chest areas so you can kick that fall cold!
You will need 1 pair of cotton socks (at least 60% cotton; thin ankle socks are best), and 1 pair of wool socks (synthetic wool socks will not work).
- Before bed, rinse your cotton socks in cold tap water, and wring them out.
- Then, stick them in the freezer for 5-10 minutes.
- While your socks are “chilling,” run yourself a very hot foot bath and soak your feet for 2-3 minutes. (You can use a portable tub or foot bath if you don’t have a bath tub available).
- Take your socks out of the freezer, and thaw them to the point that you can put them on.
- Pull out your cold cotton socks, then slip your dry wool socks over the cotton ones.
- Climb into bed with lots of warm blankets, and prepare for a good night’s sleep.
- The magic of the socks work while you sleep, as your body heats up to respond to the cold socks, and increases your circulation during the night.
- When you wake, both pairs of socks should be completely dry!
I realize it sounds a little crazy, but it’s actually magic! Repeat for 3 nights or until fever and congestion have cleared. You’ll be feeling better in no time.
Tip #2: UMCKA
Coming down with a head cold? Grab Umcka, and take a dropper every hour for the first day then continue as directed. It not only relieves cold symptoms, it will shorten the duration and intensity even if the cold doesn’t get better away right away.
It’s proven! Clinical studies have proven Pelargonium sidoides root extract is effective for alleviating common colds, plus nasal, throat, and bronchial irritations. It’s from nature and works faster, so you can experience wellness once again!
Umcka can be found in the natural section of most stores. Make sure to buy the alcohol free version of drops or syrup.
Tip #3: Thieves® Essential Oil Blend
I was introduced to Thieves® essential oil in the ’80s when I was traveling back and forth to Canada for my acupressure training. My immune system was compromised, and after each trip I would become ill. I started off applying the oil to the bottom of my feet before air travel, or adding it to a cotton ball to place in the air vent or hold to my nose on and off during the flight.
I would also add a couple of drops to hot water, or ingest a few drops in a gel capsule. From that time on, this has been one of my most important wellness tools.
A fun fact! In France during the 15th century plague, legend says thieves would sneak into graveyards to rob from the dead and dying, and they protected themselves by creating a special aromatic combination composed of clove, rosemary, and other botanicals. Today Thieves® essential oil blend is inspired by those tales of old. Combining Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Lemon oil, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils.
The Thieves® blend of oils are highly antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-infectious. Thieves® is perfect for general wellness support!
NOTE: There is now an entire line of Thieves® products from Young Living, for wellness, oral care, and a home line which provides for a non-toxic home environment.
